Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Geilenkirchen Education Center in Building 89, room 3.

To find our location please follow the A4/A76 Expressway to the Netherlands (direction Heerlen). From the A4/A76 take the “Nuth / Brunssum” exit, then proceed through two traffic lights to “Akerstratt.” Make a right turn onto “Akerstratt.” Remain on the Akerstraat. You will pass an “Esso” gas station and then you will come to a traffic circle. Take the third exit in the traffic circle. Go straight on this street through two more traffic lights, and then pass the traffic circle in front of HQ AFNORTH. You will come to a sign reading “Geilenkirchen.” Make a left at this sign. Stay on this priority road until you get to the second traffic circle where you will take the second exit toward Geilenkirchen. Then take an immediate left, again toward Geilenkirchen, and continue straight until you get to a “T “ intersection. At the “T” intersection turn left. You will stay on this road until you arrive at the front gate of the Geilenkirchen Airbase. The Education Center is a few blocks up the road in front of Dresdener Bank and directly next to the elmentary school. There is parking available in front of the Bldg, 89.

Computer Labs

The nearest UMUC sponsored computer lab is at the AFNORTH Education Center, about 20 minutes away from Geilenkirchen Airbase. The center provides 12 computers and a laser printer for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as a word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

Additional Site Information

The Geilenkirchen Airbase is one of the largest U.S. military bases within the Netherlands. On the base, there are many recreational facilities including: sport fields, two fitness centers, an out-door public pool, AAFES BX, a community grocery store, and the Century Club Restaurant. All of these facilities are within walking distance of the education center. Geilenkirchen is also a short distance from HQ AFNORTH and the U.S. Army Garrison Schinnen.
