Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Ansbach Education Center in Building 5818.

To find our location, please take Autobahn 6, exit 52 toward the city of Ansbach, then take the German Federal Highwat B13 toward Nuernberg. The B13 eventually changes into the B14 and runs directly to Katterbach Kaserne; the kaserne is located on the right side of the road. UMUC office is located in the education center on Katterbach Kaserne, just across the street from Bismarck Kaserne; Katterbach Kaserne and Bismarck Kaserne are separated by German Federal Highway B14. The Education Center is on the second floor of Bldg 5181, above the SATO travel office and across the street from the post office. Parking is available at the front side, left side, and right side of Bldg 5818.

Computer Labs

The UMUC sponsored computer lab has ten computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as a word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computers are located in an education center classroom, therefore availability depends upon classroom use. When the classroom is free, the computer lab is accessible from 0830-1630.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

Additional Site Information

Within the U.S. Army Garrison Ansabch, there are five different kasernes: Barton Barracks, Bismarck Kaserne, Katterbach Kaserne, Shipton Kaserne, and Storck Barracks/Illesheim Kaserne. The education center is located on Katterbach Kaserne, just across the street from Bismarck Kaserne. Family housing, the Ansbach Elementary School, Ansbach Middle School, two banking facilities, the commissary, the post office, SATO travel office, and AAFES facilities are located on Katterbach Kaserne. Dining facilities on Katterbach Kaserne include: Burger King, Pizzeria, German Cantina, Eddies restaurant, and a fast food kiosk in the bowling alley. The AAFES Post Exchange, gas station and Car Care Center, as well as guest quarters in the Franconian Hotel are located on Bismarck Kaserne.

Ansbach is the capital of the district “Middle Franconia” and is located about 25 miles southwest from Nuernberg, in the northern part of Bavaria. The town has about 50,000 residents and is built along the Rezat river. For more information please visit http://www.ansbach.army.mil/sites/local
