Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Iron Works Education Center in Building 8332.

To find our location, please take Autobahn 62, exit “Freisen/Baumholder.” This exit merges onto another road; stay on this road for about 7 or 8 miles. When you come to a sign marked “Baumholder” make a right turn. Stay on this road and you will pass Baumholder High School on left side of road and a BP and ESSO gas station on the right side of this road. At the first traffic light turn left; follow this road until the next traffic light, and go straight through the traffic light. Keep going straight until you reach the front gate of the Smith Barracks.

After you pass through the entrance/check-point on Smith Barracks, you will come to a traffic circle. Take the second right in the traffic circle (maintaining a straight orientation) and follow that road until you come to 4-way intersection. Take a left at the intersection and follow that road until you come to a sign on the left side of the road stating “Iron Works.” The Iron Works Education Center in Bldg 8332 is a one story, white building. Parking is available in front of the building.

Computer Labs

The UMUC sponsored computer lab has 11 computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computer lab is available Mon-Fri, 0800-2200 and Sat-Sun, 1000-1800.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

The U.S. Army Garrison Baumholder (USAG) is located in the wooded hills of the Western Palatinate in the German federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz, only 30 miles from the French and Luxemburg borders. H.D. Smith Barracks, commonly called Baumholder, is located near the German city of Baumholder and is the BSB Headquarters as well as the home of the 1st Armored Division’s 2nd Brigade and Division Artillery.

On Smith Barracks, several dining facilities are available to include a kiosk in the bowling alley, a food court with Taco Bell, Anthony’s Pizza, Popeyes, Burger King, and a Donar Kabob, and the Rheinlander restaurant, serving German cuisine.
