Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Grafenwoehr Education Center in Building 538.

Grafenwoehr is located north of Amberg or east of Weiden off the German Federal Highway B299. The base may be entered at Gate three (the main gate) - located across from the ESSO gas station - or at Gate six. If entering the post through gate three, pass through the inspection area and continues straight on Johnson Street until you come to a “T” intersection, which will be Gettysburg Avenue. Turn right onto Gettysburg Avenue and proceed straight ahead. On the right side you will see the tower of Gradenwoehr post. Take a left and drive past the Burger King. Continue driving into a traffic circle and exit the traffic circle maintaining a straight orientation. Drive straight, passing a gas station, Post Exchange, and commissary complex. Take the third exit. Drive straight and pass a car wash. After the car wash, turn left. Drive straight until you see a one-story building, Bldg 538 is the Education Center. Limited parking is available in front of the building.

If entering the post through Gate 6, please drive straight until pass a car wash on the left side. Take an immediate right after the car wash. Drive straight until you see a one-story building, Bldg 538 is the Education Center. Limited parking is available in front of the building.

Computer Labs

The UMUC sponsored computer lab has ten computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computers are available for student use during UMUC on-site operating hours.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

Additional Site Information

The U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr’s mission and role is to provide quality base operations and support the 7th Army Training command, the Grafenwoehr Training Area, the Hohenfels Training Area, the Combat Maneuver Training Center. On-post dining facilities include: Burger King, Anthony's Pizza, a restaurant and grill in the bowling alley, a Shoppette, and a commissary. On-post lodging is available at the Tower Inn. On-post entertainment incldues the Tower movie theater and a fitness center. The external German communities surrounding the military base are primarily comprised of farming communities. However, directly outside the post, many restaurants, retailers and pubs are availble within the neighboring town.
