Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Storck Barracks Education Center, Building 6503, room 202.

To find our location, please take the German Federal Highway B470 toward the town of Illesheim. Then follow the signs toward Storck Barracks. Once you pass through the inspection area at the main gate, please follow the road straight onto the main post. On this road you will pass through another gate. The barracks is located on the right side. Continue going straight. You will pass a gas station. After the gas station, count 4 buildings down and then turn right. Then make an immediate left turn onto the next street. The education center is located in Bldg 6503, on your left side. The UMUC office is located on the 2nd floor. Parking is available behind the Education Center and additional parking is available across the street behind the food court and PX.

Computer Labs

The UMUC sponsored computer lab has ten computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as a word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computers are located in an education center classroom, therefore availability depends upon classroom use. When the classroom is free, the computer lab is accessible from Mon-Fri, 0830-1630.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

Additional Site Information

The Storck Barracks and the village of Illesheim is located three miles southwest of the city of Bad Windsheim. Bad Windsheim offers many restaurants and lodging options, as well as many retail venues and a German movie theater. There is also a movie theater on-post, as well as several dining options including: Shoppette, Anthony’s Pizza, American Eatery, and Primo’s restaurant - located in the bowling alley. There is no lodging available on Storck Barracks.

The region in which both Bad Windsheim and Illesheim are located is called Franconia in the state of Bavaria. The town of Illesheim is a small, German community that serves as a market center for the surrounding agricultural area. It is similar to a small farming community in the mid-western U.S.
