Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Ledward Education Center in Building 242.

From Autobahn 7 (Wuerzburg to Kasel), please exit at the Autobahn A70 junction toward Schweinfurt. Once on Autobahn 70, continue straight until you reach another junction for the Autobahn A71 (about 7 kilometers). Exit onto the A71, toward Erfurt. Remain on the A71 until you reach the first and only exit for Schweinfurt – West, on the German Federal Highway B303 (about 5 km). It is important to take this exit, as the next exit is 15 kilometers away. Once on the B303, you will pass through a series of traffic lights. Driving along the B303, you will see on the right side of the highway, Conn Barracks (1 km) and Askren Manor Housing. As you pass Askren Manor, you will notice a large parade ground on the right side called "Volksfestplatz." You will want to take the next left at the traffic light adjacent to the parade ground. You will drive along Ledward Barracks until you reach the entrance gate. If you pass a McDonalds, then you have driven too far and will need to turn around.

Once you drive through the main gate on post and pass through the inspection area, please continue on the priority road until you come to a stop sign attached to a wooden fence. After the stop sign, continue straight and you will pass a parking lot for the AAFES Main Exchange on the right side. At the next stop sign, turn left onto the priority road and follow it around as if you are driving out the exit gate. The elongated building on the left side of the road is the education center, Bldg 242. There are four offices located within this building, and the Education Center is the third office, between ACS and the library.

Computer Labs

UMUC does not provide a computer lab at this location. However, a computer lab is available at the UMUC office located on Conn Barracks within the Schweinfurt community.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

Additional Site Information

On base dining facilities include: Shoppette, Anthony's Pizza, Taco Bell, and Subway, along with various other concessionaires. Lodging is available through the Bradley Inn, located on Conn Barracks (about a 10 minute drive from Ledward).

Points of interest within the German, Schweinfurt community include: the Museum Georg Schaefer, which houses the largest collection of 19th century German art in the world, and is one of the most famous art galleries in Germany; Bibliothek Otto Schäfer, a museum for printing, graphics, and arts/crafts; Silvana Schwimmbad, with both outdoor and indoor swimming pools; and a Flea market, each month on the 1st and 3rd Saturday.
