All Bowie State graduate programs have the same general admission requirements. Based on these requirements, qualified applicants are admitted into one of the following categories:

Full Admission. Students in this category are seeking to complete the master’s degree. They must have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or the equivalent with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students will not be fully admitted until the transcript from the degree-granting institution is received and the GPA for the student’s entire undergraduate career leading to that degree is calculated. Students are permitted to take a maximum of nine credits with Bowie State University before full admission is granted.

Conditional Admission. Applicants with a baccalau­reate cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 2.49 will be granted conditional admission. Conditional admission will be removed and full admission will be granted with the attainment of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better after the completion of nine graduate credits with Bowie State University. If a student does not meet this requirement, a request for waiver may be submitted to the appropriate graduate program director. If approved, the student may be granted permission to repeat a course to earn a higher grade to achieve a 3.0 GPA.

Non-Degree Admission. Students who do not wish to earn a BSU degree but wish to enroll in courses, to transfer credit to another institution, or for the purposes of professional development or recertification must complete an online application for graduate admission, pay the $40 application fee, and submit official transcript showing proof of at least a bachelor’s degree. If taking courses for transfer, students must present a letter from the graduate dean of the home institution indicating the student is in good standing and that the BSU credit is acceptable towards the student’s degree.

UMUC Europe Seniors. Undergraduate students enrolled with UMUC Europe who have reached senior-level status (90 credits or more) may be approved to register for up to six credits of graduate BSU coursework. Permission to take classes as a senior does not constitute regular admission to the graduate program. Graduate coursework may not be taken to fulfill undergraduate degree requirements. Once students have officially satisfied all bachelor’s degree requirements they may then be admitted to the graduate program. See the Graduate Catalog for more details.
