COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Internship is designed to help the student continue in his/her growth in the counseling field and to refine the skills already learned in Practicum. Student interest and needs will help determine class content and activities. Specific topics such as case staffings, termination, resume preparation, Ethics and advanced techniques will be addressed. Continued group support, exploration of one's own hooks, resistances,and issues is expected. Practicum site supervision will continue as in Practicum I.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: The student is expected to be able to: 1. Improve proficiency in counseling skills developed in Practicum. 2. Facilitate client growth and self-exploration. 3. Be familiar with Ethical Standards and professional and legal concerns 4. Conduct a staff meeting, presenting the clinical picture of a client, with group led discussion on alternative treatments for the client. 5. These readings will be handed out in class. **An extensive film and book library will be available weekly for checkout. It is expected that students review as many as possible. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: 1. FIELD PLACEMENT: Minimum of 15 hours per week with weekly log. 2. JOURNAL: Hand in summary of weekly journal entries, every other week. 3. READINGS as assigned. 4. TAPES/Transcripts: 2 taped transcripts and critiques 5. CASE Staffings: ( least 20 min in length) at least 2 times during the semester. 6. Will be video taped and critiqued. 7. SITE VISITATIONS/EVALUATION: Professor will visit site at least 1 time. 8. Read 1 article in an area of your interest and report to the class 9. Write a professional Resume CONFIDENTIALITY Guidelines for confidentiality remain the same as in Practicum I. You must have permission to tape a client session and if the client is under 18, you must have parental permission. Group work within the classroom is also considered confidential. FINAL GRADE: |
