| Title: | INSS 510 | Computer Concepts | (3sh.) |
| Description: This course provides an overview of the basic computer concepts as they apply to MIS professionals. Emphasisù is on basic machine architecture including data storage, manipulation, the human-machine interface including the basics of operating systems, algorithms, and programming languages. In addition, the basic concepts of data organization including data and file structures are examined. Emerging trends in computer technology and their impact on ù organizational information systems are also discussed. Students will be required to complete programming projects. |

| Objectives : By the end of this course, students shall be able to: | |
| 1) | Understand basics of computer hardware, software, and networks, |
| 2) | Know hardware technology, |
| 3) | Grasp data communications over networks, |
| 4) | Comprehend software technologies and system administration. |

We shall accomplish objectives through lecture, group discussion, and practical application. Students should be prepared to spend a substantial amount of time, outside of class, preparing assignments; these will be announced in class. |

| Evaluation: | Grades for this course will be based on the following: | |

| Term papers with significant writing errors (grammar, spelling, mechanics) will be reduced in grade depending upon the severity of the problems. Carefully proofread your papers. |
| Grades on course work submitted after the due date will be reduced by one letter grade per week. |
| Attendance: Class attendance is expected and necessary to master course material thereby reaching stated objectives. More than six, one-hour, non-excused absences may lead to a grade of F(n). If you should miss a class meeting, it remains your responsibility to obtain information concerning the material covered and upcoming assignments. |
| Make-Up Examinations: If you miss an announced quiz or exam for duty reasons or illness, you must provide documentary proof to be permitted to take a make-up exam. |
