Management Information Systems (MIS)

The MS in Management Information Systems (MIS) prepares graduates to play an instrumental role in organizations seeking to enhance the quality and effectiveness of their information processes. The MIS program emphasizes both information systems and technology, enabling graduates to define, analyze, design, construct, and manage information systems. Students learn about such topics as systems architecture, software structures, data communication networks, and databases. In the practicum and seminar, students have the opportunity to explore areas of personal interest.

A major goal of Bowie State University's Graduate School is to provide high-quality professional programs at the graduate level. Bowie programs are accessible and flexible, and place special emphasis on teaching excellence. To meet the needs of students, the course schedule includes classroom courses on evenings and weekends as well as distance education (DE) courses available over the Internet.

All MIS courses are offered via distance education. This option offers students who are deployed or need to adjust their busy schedules the opportunity to continue their progress toward the degree even when they are unable to attend face-to-face classes. In addition, the distance education offerings cycle around much more frequently - typically about twice in each year.
