Academic Standards
Bowie State University
A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 is placed on academic probation. Any student on academic probation is permitted to take a maximum of 9 credit hours to raise the GPA to at least a 3.0 as authorized by the student’s program director. Failure to obtain at least a 3.0 GPA in that time will result in academic dismissal.
The duration of the dismissal is two terms; courses taken at other institutions during the dismissal period cannot be transferred to Bowie State University. In order to be considered for readmission, the student must petition the associate dean. The seven-year time limitation for degree completion shall include the period of dismissal. A student dismissed for academic dishonesty, as described in Appendix H of UMUC Europe’s Undergraduate Catalog (www.umuc.edu/policy/aa15025.shtml), may not reapply.
Students who lack sufficient academic aptitude or who fail to show evidence of serious purpose may be requested by the associate dean to withdraw from the Graduate School.
