New Europe Division Faculty and Administrative Appointments, August 2008

New Faculty Members

Francis Davis earned her B.A. in political science at Mount Holyoke College and her M.A. in history from Duke University. She also holds a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law. After retiring as a captain in the United States Air Force, she practiced law for fifteen years in various areas of Pennsylvania. For the past five years, she has worked as an attorney and consultant for several business enterprises in Pennsylvania and in Greece. She taught an American government course for UMUC at Souda Bay earlier this year. In Fall Session 1, Ms. Davis will teach at Camp Buehring, Kuwait.

Bobbie Martindale received her B.A. in English from Rice University, her MBA in Accounting from Wright State University, and her Ph.D. in accounting from the University of North Texas. From 1981 to 1985 she worked first as a Tax Accountant and then as a Tax Specialist in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. From 1990 to 1993 she taught graduate and undergraduate courses in accounting at San Jose State University. In 1994, she accepted a position as Professor of Accounting at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas, where she has taught for the past fourteen years. In Fall Session 1, Dr. Martindale will teach in the Ramstein-Kaiserslautern area.

Julia Mika holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts and an M.A. in English Literature from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. After earning her Master’s degree, she taught at high schools in Texas and Bahrain. In the spring of 2003, Ms. Mika joined UMUC as an adjunct instructor in Bahrain, where she has taught courses in English, Speech, and Theatre. In Fall Session 1, Ms. Mika will teach at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Beverly Smith-Keiling earned a B.S. in biology from East Central University and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Minnesota. She received a European Union Research Grant in 2002 and conducted postdoctoral work at the Universite Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France. She has taught biology courses at Augsburg College, Concordia University, Hamline University, and the University of Minnesota, all in Minnesota, and at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. In Fall Session 1, Dr. Keiling-Smith will teach in the Ramstein-Kaiserslautern area.

Thomas Trocchio received a B.S. in psychology from Eastern Michigan University, a M.S. in psychology from Wayne State University, and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Since the completion of his doctorate, Dr. Trocchio has worked in the private sector as a clinical psychologist. He has taught as an adjunct instructor for universities in California and Hawaii. In Fall Session 1, Dr. Trocchio will teach in the Ramstein-Kaiserslautern area.

New Administrative Appointments

Diane Jones-Palm is joining Europe’s administration as Air Force Service Program Director (SPD) and Assistant Dean for Social Science. For the time being, she’ll continue in her role as Faculty Peer for Sociology and Criminal Justice. Diane is a veteran instructor with UMUC Europe and it’s a pleasure having her in this new role.

At the same time, we’ve added Assistant Dean duties to Anand Krishna’s role as Army SPD. Now, in addition to being Army SPD, he’ll also be Assistant Dean for Natural Sciences and Computer Studies. Stephen Richards will continue as Assistant Dean for Business, Humanities (includes Foreign Languages), and Communication. Douglas Franklin, Associate Dean, will continue as Navy SPD and he’ll also continue academic oversight of the Math program.

Stephanie Anderson also moves from interim status in her role as Downrange Programs Director and Daniel Bennette makes a similar move in being appointed as Europe’s Peoplesoft Scheduling Administrator.
