2008-2009 FALL FACULTY MEETINGS

2008-2009 FALL FACULTY MEETINGS

Traditionally, Europe has held an annual Fall Faculty Meeting in Heidelberg. This year, because our usual venue at Patrick Henry Village is unavailable, weve decided to bring the Fall Faculty Meeting to you or, at least, to many of you.

These smaller, more informal meetings are scheduled for

  • Bamberg (Sept. 5),
  • Spangdahlem (Sept. 12),
  • the Benelux (Sept. 13),
  • the KMC (Sept. 19),
  • Aviano (postponed),
  • Naples (postponed),
  • Sigonella (postponed),
  • Heidelberg (Nov. 22),
  • and Rota (Dec. 5).

We selected these sites because they should be a convenient commute for many faculty members. However, only those faculty members living fairly close to the meeting sites are expected to attend. The sole travel expense that will be reimbursed is mileage. For these regional faculty meetings, a faculty member will be granted a mileage allowance of up to 150 kilometers, one-way (300 km, round trip). If you can not attend the meeting closest to you, the university will be unable to finance your transportation to attend a regional faculty meeting this fall.

If you plan to attend a faculty meeting, please notify the Office of the Director at least two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting date. Well be in touch with you about location details and to confirm your attendance.

Each meeting will have a morning session (about 10-12 noon) focusing on division and worldwide UMUC news, and distance education, followed by a group lunch provided by UMUC and then an afternoon session (about 1:30-3:30 pm). The afternoon session will be led by some combination of Doug Franklin, Anand Krishna, Diane Jones-Palm, and Stephen Richards. It will focus on PeopleSoft issues and WebTycho enhancement of F2F classes. Monika Denburg and I will conduct the morning session. Stateside visitors will be participating in some meetings. We'll have an agenda to you, shortly.

The annual UK Fall Faculty Meeting will be held on November 15, 2008. The meeting will occur at the same location as last year's meeting at the Riverside Inn in Mildenhall. Details will follow.
