Serbo-Croatian

Courses in Serbo-Croatian (designated SECR) may be applied as appropriate, for example, toward:

  • the general education requirements in the arts and humanities;
  • a major or minor in humanities; and
  • electives.
SECR 111 Elementary Serbo-Croatian I (3)

A basic foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Serbo-Croatian. Serbo-Croatian culture, history, current events, and geography provide the context for instruction in grammatical structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, and writing. Focus is on acquiring the skills necessary to communicate with native Serbo-Croatian speakers orally and on writing at an elementary level.

SECR 112 Elementary Serbo-Croatian II (3)

Prerequisite: SECR 111. A continuation of the development of basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Serbo-Croatian. Serbo-Croatian culture, history, current events, and geography provide the context for instruction in grammatical structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, and writing. Focus is on acquiring the skills necessary to communicate with native Serbo-Croatian speakers orally and on writing at an advanced elementary level. Much of the class is conducted in Serbo-Croatian.
