If you're like most students, the course work you have taken with University of Maryland University College (UMUC) represents a stepping stone in the process of continuing your formal education and developing your professional life.
Here is some information we'd like you to know about your permanent records.
Requesting Your Maryland Transcript
If you transfer to another university or apply for a job, you will need to document your academic qualification. An official transcript may be just what you need. To make sure your transcript is ready when you need it, please remember the following:Before You Leave Europe
It is a good idea to have a copy of your transcript sent to you after you have finished taking courses with UMUC but before you depart. Review it carefully to ensure that the official transcript matches your own records. If for any reason your records and the official UMUC transcript do not agree (e.g., a grade change has not been received in Heidelberg and therefore does not appear on your official transcript), there is still time to resolve discrepancies. Once you leave Europe it is more difficult to do so.
Permanent Location of Your Undergraduate Records
Unless you enroll with another division of UMUC, your official academic record will remain with the UMUC Europe in Heidelberg. Once you leave Europe, contact UMUC Europe directly to obtain copies of your transcript. Requesting a transcript through any other division of UMUC will only result in delay.
Requesting a Transcript
To request a transcript, you may use the transcript order forms. If requesting a transcript by letter or fax, provide the following information: Name, SSN, date of birth, dates of attendance, location of last attendance, any other division of UMUC previously attended, address where transcript is to be sent, your mailing address, and your signature.
Completing Your UMUC Degree After You Leave Europe
Completing minimum degree requirements through UMUC before you leave Europe can guarantee you the option of completing your degree almost anywhere you go. More than 20 percent of all recent degree recipients through UMUC Europe do this by transferring credit from other sources after leaving Europe.
All you have to do to finish your degree elsewhere is, before departing Europe:
- Secure an official evaluation.
- Satisfactorily complete minimum course requirements with UMUC.
For a UMUC 18 s.h. Certificate, this means completing a minimum of 9 s.h. with UMUC.
For a UMUC A.A. degree, this means completing a minimum of 15 s.h. with UMUC (with possible distribution requirements, depending upon the program).
For a UMUC bachelor's degree, it means completing a minimum of 30 s.h. with UMUC (with at least half of the semester hours earned for the major and at least half the semester hours earned for the minor and at least 15 semester hours of upper-level credit). A Maryland Academic Advisor can tell you precisely where you stand in your chosen degree program.
Please remember that you must arrange for official transcripts to be sent from other schools directly to the UMUC headquarters in Heidelberg at one of the above addresses. Personal copies or copies of transcripts sent to you or any other source cannot be accepted.
Other Options After You Leave Europe
If you are degree seeking with UMUC and relocate to the Pacific theater served by UMUC-Asia or to the State of Maryland and the greater Washington, D.C. area (to include the Pentagon) served by UMUC-Statewide, you can take further classes with UMUC at more than 85 locations. It's just as easy as signing up for classes at another Education Center served by UMUC Europe. Your UMUC records from Europe follow you to your new location. There, your official evaluation will be in force, and you can continue studying with UMUC.
If you relocate to an area where UMUC does not offer regular classes, you can still complete your degree in distance education format through UMUC's Online program. This program permits maximum flexibility, since no class sessions are required and examinations may be taken in proctored settings near where you live or work. Participation in online courses via the Internet is required.
